Cantonese Café is an ongiong project; a process of coming to terms with feeling like the other to one's own identity (in this case, my bi-racial Chinese and American heritage). Through art making, dining, and memorabilia collecting, I make physical the experiences of joy and grief while having access to Chinese culture, particularly in New York City, yet never feeling Chinese enough. Eight hand-quilted and digitally printed placemats documenting meals, snacks, and produce that I consumed in New York (Flushing and Manhattan China Town) and various regions of China (Xi'An, Chengdu, and Beijing).
꩜ Chinese Placemats ~13x22 inches ea.
