Water Work

꩜ About

Water Work is a dance duet inspired by communal rituals surrounding bodies of water. From pool decks to beach shores, the performance nods to the gestures, aesthetics, and soundscapes of American sports and leisure activities with dream-like interpretation. The series was created by Lauren Kravitz and Shantel Prado, whose collaborations embody the intimate ebb and flow between creative partners and decades-long friends.

꩜ Notes on set design

Blue and turquoise-toned fabric panels anchor the performance's aquatic theme. A combination of fabrics—elastic PVC, taffeta, and quilting cotton—ripple and shift, catching light the way a pool’s surface does. The panels draw the eye inward, toward the buoyant rhythms of the performers. Hanging vertically, filling the space of a rectangular gallery or window, they represent Olympic pool lanes with imperfect measurements.
